Toadstool
Over Zoom, my friend Francisco Cortes and I agreed to do a creative exercise where each of us would make a sketch from scratch and the other would use it as inspiration for a design of anything they wanted.
Francisco did the abstract sketch pictured, and I found the interesting shapes were calling me to ideate and design a piece of furniture.

3D modeling
I wanted to try a non-traditional approach in how to start my concept, so I decided to try the 3D modeling using the Ipad Pro Shapr3d app, which I found an enjoyable way to rapidly create designs on the fly from the comfort of my sofa. Within minutes I realized the potential of using this approach, including the flexibility to export it to rendering software right away using 3DSMAX and VRAY5 as a render engine.

The final product was a table with stools. For this type of free-flowing exercise, I did not begin with the end in mind. As the furniture developed, I realized the shapes and colors of the set would welcome children to play and create stories in an aesthetic yet functional and playful set of furniture.
